TRISHA BROWN OFF THE WALL

2010

Program guide for Off The Wall Part 2: Seven Works by Trisha Brown. The booklet holds historical documentation of Brown’s works along with an accompanying essay by Performing Arts Curator, Limor Tomer. The pink wrap around each booklet acts as a calendar of events and its sideways orientation draws on the perfomative aspect of Brown’s, Man Walking Down The Side of a Building piece

WHITNEY ISP CREATIVE DESTRUCTION

2012

Creative Destruction refers to capitalism’s inherent tendency to create new wealth by destroying the previous economic order. This concept was popularized in the United States after World War II when economist Joseph Schumpeter adapted it as a model of economic innovation but still warned of its self-destructive nature. This exhibition reclaims the phrase “creative destruction” in order to emphasize how preexisting systems of representation can be reconfigured for different political purposes. The artists illuminate the way in which certain ideological structures perpetuate a constructed yet naturalized state of inequality.

The publication was produced in support of the exhibition by the same title at the height of the Occupy Wall Street protests.

XAVIER CHA BODY DRAMA

2011

For Body Drama, Xavier Cha transformed the Whitney gallery space into a mysterious setting in which an actor performs an act of deep sorrow, pain, and discomfort while wearing a body-mounted camera. In between performances the resulting footage is projected on the wall, offering viewers two versions of the same experience, both of which center on disorienting psychological and physical space. The exhibition brochure offers insight into Cha’s larger body of work.

BRICK

2013

The Brick was created while attending the Werkplaats Typografie Summer School in Urbino, Italy. The workshop prompt was to respond to the idea of history in relation to the medieval city. What stood out to me the most about Urbino is the massive amount of bricks that were used to build Urbino atop of a mountain. Research revealed that the Romans had a special process for extracting clay from Urbino’s hillsides and firing the clay right on location. I followed the same process to make my own brick and matched the same specifications as the Romans had. For the final presentation, I released the brick from its mold and placed it in the city’s walls. This book documents the history and process.
